After opening a hub in the Philippines, AirAsia Zest has made a notable impact in the country’s airline industry. Being a budget airline, the company slowly won the heart and trust of Filipinos flying in and out of the archipelago. They made flying possible for everyone from all walks of life.

AirAsia is a Malaysian airline known for its low-cost fare. In fact, the airline company is a pioneer of affordable travel in Asia through their incredibly cheap fare. Its main headquarter is in Kuala Lumpur with different hubs in neighboring countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Macau, China, Brunei, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Myanmar. It started its operation in the Philippines in April 2005 with certain destinations.

A Bit of History

In 1994 the AirAsia airline was established by a government-owned conglomerate, DRB-hicom, but it was until November 1998 that it began its operation. Unfortunately, the company faced shortcomings and major problems putting them heavily in debt. In December 2001, the airline company was sold to Tony Fernandes of Tune Air Sdn Bhd. And after just a year, Fernandes was able to generate profit to the airline company and has launched new routes. Under Fernandes’ management, AirAsia introduced promotional fares for as low as $0.27 in 2002. Along with impressive marketing strategies and assistance from sister companies, AirAsia rose from being badly in debt to one of the most successful airline companies in Asia.

Destinations

AirAsia has more than 150 routes. But as of the moment, the airline company has limited flights to the Philippines from other countries.

If you are coming from neighboring countries, like Singapore, Macau, South Korea and Malaysia, you can catch a direct flight to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila. Tourists whose point of origins are US and Europe can benefit from these routes since there are only few direct flights to the capital city. Meanwhile, AirAsia offers a direct flight from Adelaide, Australia to Manila, which means there is no stop over or connecting flight to get to the destination.

What Makes AirAsia Famous

AirAsia has become the talk of the town when it started its low-cost fare promotion in the Philippines. In this promo, consumers can enjoy super affordable base fare to selected destinations. For instance, AirAsia’s piso base fare has attracted hundreds of passengers from all over the country. A lot of people anticipate this promo all year round.

Another program of AirAsia is the BIG Shot where in customers can accumulate points every ticket
booked and can convert it to free flight.

In 2014, AirAsia has created another noise in the country when it became the official airline partner of Taylor Swift’s RED tour. The newest addition to AirAsia’s fleet had the singer’s name and image painted on its body.

Awards

With much effort to provide excellent customer service, AirAsia prides itself in winning the Skytrax’s World’s Best Low-Cost Airline for six consecutive years. And as years passed, they continue gathering more awards to prove their excellency.
