“Philippines is known for arts especially the performance arts. Here is one proof…”
Manila, and the whole Philippines as a nation, is known for arts especially the performance arts. Being a nation that loves to perform, it became necessary to find a place for all the performers to converge and make great presentations together. Because of this endeavor, Arts in the City was formed.
Arts in the city was launched on April 13, 2009 as a result of the negotiations between the Bonifacio Global City companies, Ballet Philippines board of trustees and the members of Tanghalang Pilipino and the Philippines Madrigal Singers.
This idea of opening a school for the arts in the city of Taguig was a concept of three brilliant minds. One is Fernando Josef who was then the Vice President and Artistic Director of the CCP. He is currently the Artistic Director of Tanghalang Pilipino and Director of the Philippine High School for the Arts. With him in the conceptualization of the school are: Sandy Hontiveros, then Executive Director of Ballet Philippines and the present Executive Director of Arts; and Noel Kintanar, Head of Commercial Operations of Bonifacio Global City.
Arts in the City was formally formed after the approval of Ballet Philippines’ Chairman Antonio O. Cojuangco, then President Maan Hontiveros and the Board of Trustees of the Bonifacio Global City companies.
Arts is made up of teachers and performers from the country’s elite performing groups such as the Philippine Madrigal Singers, Ballet Philippines, Tanghalang Pilipino and other professional arts community for dance, music theater and visual arts.
The dance studios are spacious with music rooms for piano, voice, guitar and other instrumental lessons. There is also a gallery for exhibits and meetings. An addition to its facilities is the recently inaugurated FVR for intimate performances and events.
